Munich Creative Business Week

Munich Creative Business Week is returning this year with the theme ‘Moving Horizons’. In the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s theme encourages designers and the public alike to consider how we can design for a better future. For Munich Creative Business Week, the Green Future Club has curated an exhibition entitled “Let’s design the future”, dedicated to circular design. The exhibition features six themed islands, each based around a material which is a source for sustainable products. The islands feature materials and products which have been submitted to the Green Concept and Green Product Award.

Bond Morgan’s Mutatio bag has been selected to be featured as part of the “New plant world” island, due to our innovative use of Piñatex®, a plant-based vegan-leather made from pineapple fibres, in the Mutatio collection. The multifunctional design makes this a bag for each day of the week with seven ways to wear the Mutatio bag including as a Rucksack, Tote, Handbag, Compact body and Satchel.

The Mutatio collection uses Piñatex® a plant-based leather, made from pineapple leaves and is a natural and sustainably sourced material. Piñatex® is sustainable as it is a by-product of the agriculture industry. No extra land, water or pesticides are required to produce this lightweight and durable material, and at its end-of-life it can be shred into geotextiles. Its journey began when founder, Dr. Carmen Hijosa, became;

Shocked at the environmental impact of mass leather production and chemical tanning she realised this could not continue, but knew that PVC alternatives were not the solution. She was driven to research a sustainable alternative.” - Ananas Anam

The Mutatio collection uses Desserto® cactus, a highly sustainable, cruelty-free, cactus-based alternative to leather. Creators Adrián López Velarde and Marte Cázarez had the idea for Desserto®;

“after working in the furniture, automotive and fashion industries where they identified that the problem of environmental pollution was very serious. As a result, they were genuinely interested in reducing environmental impact”-Desserto®

As well as plant-based leathers, ECONYL® is used for the Mutatio bag, which recycles and reuses nylon waste to create regenerated ECONYL® nylon. The creators of ECONYL® believe the creation of a circular economy is the way forward for sustainability. “It's all part of the ECONYL® brand vision to make the world a better place by pioneering closed loop regeneration processes and delivering sustainable products.”- About us – Econyl

The multifunctional Mutatio bag was one of the finalists in the category of fashion for the Green Product Award 2021. Nils Bader, the Director of Green Product Award said the “Mutatio bag is an excellent example for the level of quality and passion, our nominees are contributing to a more sustainable future”.

Bond Morgan is honoured that our product has been selected to be featured in this exhibition. Bond Morgan showcases Bond’s passion for sustainability, belief in ethical living and desire for multifunctional design. As the world is adjusting, reconsidering and restructuring daily approaches to our everyday lives the Mutatio bag offers a responsible, ethical and adaptable way to combat climate change while giving the consumer multiple options for every day living.

Nils Bader, founder and director of the Green Future Club, led the opening of the exhibition on the 14th of May at the Viktualienmarkt around the Glass Pavilion, and introduced selected female designers behind the projects. The glass pavilion can be visited all day at the Viktualienmarkt (Frauenstraße 8) during MCBW from May 14 to 22.
